Autumn....contemplations

I love Autumn!

Cooler days....the fragrance perfume of earth, water, leaves, spices....The laughter of children learning, running through leaves, carving jack-o-lanterns....Rows of freshly canned tomatoes, green beans and peaches settled in on the pantry shelves....The anticipation of holidays and family get togethers and good food.

And as the world settles in to Autumn my heart and mind finds precious moments of contemplation and remembering. Why is it that Autumn brings back in vibrant colors the memories of loved ones-passed, treasured relationships-gone, old dreams-now dead.

I believe that each season has its joy and its sorrow. It is ALL important! The seasons have often been compared to the seasons of life. As grandparents we have lived through these seasons and it is tempting to be depressed as we enter this time in our lives.

I choose instead to look at the things I have learned from life's seasons.
My grandchildren can learn precious lessons of love and living from me! I am excited about sharing it! I feel sadness at the losses because I had the opportunity to feel the joy that came when these people and relationships filled my life! I can focus on the joy.

Even nature turns the falling leaves golden and the fading of summer ends in a glorious display!

I love the melancholy of Eva Cassidy singing Autumn Leaves! I post it here for your enjoyment!

It is during these Autumn days that the serenity prayer
seems to fit the best;

"God grant me the serentity to accept the things I cannot change, The courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference!"
