Christmas Issues!

Christmas is one time of year that really kicks up our issues! Disappointments in childhood, all the expectations and of course unmet expectations. Trying to make it what WE THINK it is supposed to be! And then in the midst of all that trying to find Christ in there somewhere!

At this Gramsies house it is the same! I love to decorate and plan surprises for my children and grandchildren. My husband feels like it is just so much clutter and like his says "Giving to the Greedy!" He is not a cooperative Christmas Celebrator!

When I found out my kids and grandkids would not be here until the New Year this year, I decided to take that as a clue to try something different this year. I will NOT decorate but will focus on cleaning and organizing my home in a more thorough way than I usually manage. I will reduce the amount of time and money spent on those who really don't need anything and instead try to find ways to give back to those who do.

This has lead to some interesting ideas and hopefully will result in building relationship and connections in ways I haven't done before. My husband has agreed that this would be a good time to set aside some money and time to invest in volunteering in our community. I have gotten excited about giving some time to a large local nursing home and am looking into volunteering with the BRIDGE program. This organization works with legitimate refugees in all countries to bring them to a place where their lives will not be in danger. Many come to the USA and need assistance building a new life here.

So....maybe Christmas issues DO have a resolution. I don't know if it will completely stop the arguments! I certainly hope it doesn't stop the conversation!
